SMOKIE
....The History of the Band.
This left the band totally devastated and with the toughest crisis they ever had to face. They not only lost a great front-line performer but also a close friend. They considered giving up for a long time but after receiving such strong support from the media and the love and encouragement to continue from their fans they decided to look for a new lead singer.
A good friend of the band, Mike Craft was invited to audition and after only one song it was decided that he was one to be the new lead singer. He was thought to have the strength of character, sensitivity and vocal talent to take them forward and continue the story. Other successful albums followed including "The World and Elsewhere”
In 1996 Alan Silson left the band as the constant touring became too much and he also wanted to work on other ventures.
Mick McConnell had previously stood in for Alan before and instantly became accepted as the bands new lead guitarist.
A successful tour of Germany followed and
then later in 1997 the band travelled over to the U.S.A. and worked in Nashville. That culminated in the new album Wild Horses. It had a distinct country flavour to it but still with the strong harmonies and Smokie sound. 1998 and 1999 saw Smokie touring extensively visiting places including Russia, South Africa and new places such as Mongolia, South America, Malta and China. This period also saw the release of the albums Uncovered and Uncovered Too, both of which were excellent and had a huge impact.
August 2004 saw the release of the new album “On the Wire” with 14 brand new songs, proving the undoubtable songwriting talents of the band leading to the inevitable success of this excellent C.D.
March 2006 brought the new love songs collection album called “From the Heart” which included 3 brand new tracks, 'Don't Give Me That, When The Night Falls and Back To You'.
And so Smokie rock on and long may they continue….
